A decade after ending the relationship, Brandy BeBe House reflects on escaping an abusive relationship and the tragic DUI crash that claimed her ex-boyfriend’s life.

Ten years ago, Brandy House made the hardest decision of her life. She walked away from an abusive relationship that had left her confused, hurt, and broken.

It was a deliberate choice to put herself first, to reclaim her life, and to begin healing.

Brandy reflected on that pivotal moment and the tragic events that followed through her . She hopes her story can help others in similar situations.

Reflecting on that moment in her life when she was done with the relationship and chose her peace, she wrote:

Today is the 10 yr Anniversary of the day I walked away from an extremely abusive relationship. It marks the day I chose myself and took my life back.

Brandy’s relationship started out like a dream. For the first two months, everything felt perfect. But then things changed.

The kindness and love she thought she’d found turned into something dark and painful within a few months.

The next six months were nothing but a mess. She tried to help her partner, believing her love could fix his pain. However, she learned a bitter truth that you can’t love someone’s demons away. That’s not your job, no matter how much you care.

Finally, in August 2015, Brandy found the courage to leave what no longer served her. It wasn’t easy, but she knew staying wasn’t an option.

Eight months after she ended the relationship, a tragedy struck. Brandy’s ex-partner, still unable to let her go, went looking for her one night in Missouri after a baseball game.

He had been drinking heavily, and around 2:30 a.m., he lost control of his SUV. The vehicle rolled three times, and he was thrown through the windshield. Brandy’s ex-partner died on impact.

Brandy shared via her post that he was determined to find Brandy and bring her back that night, writing:

He had told his friends that night after his baseball game that he was gonna find me and get me back.

But Brandy, fearing for her safety, had gone into hiding.

Ten years later, Brandy shared her story with a clear message that your job isn’t to save someone else, especially not at the cost of your own well-being.

It’s not your job to fix them…it’s your job to remove yourself and begin your healing journey. It takes whatever it takes,” Brandy concluded the post.
