A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Jon Logan Ball on Thursday evening in Rowan County, North Carolina.
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Master Trooper Whit Efird, the crash occurred at about 6:12 p.m. on August 7 along Old Beatty Ford Road.
Authorities reported that Ball was riding a red Suzuki motorcycle eastbound when a silver Jeep Cherokee, driven by 57-year-old Laura Wines Hyde, pulled out from Rockwell Road.
Hyde had been stopped at a stop sign facing north before entering the intersection, directly into Ball’s path. The motorcycle collided with the SUV, fatally injuring Ball.
Emergency responders pronounced Ball dead at the scene, and troopers have notified his family.
Investigators determined that Hyde was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision. She now faces a charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Ball’s passing has deeply shaken his friends, teammates, and community.
His friend, Kurtis Davis, expressed his grief on social media, recalling their time together playing baseball at Concord High School.
Davis described Ball as a “brother” who welcomed him to the team, guided him, and left a lasting mark on everyone he met.
“Logan, I know you’re up there in heaven ripping on a motorcycle and playing baseball,” Davis wrote.
“It genuinely hurts to see someone like you taken away from your life and your family… Fly high, bro.”
The accident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers motorcyclists face on the road.
Friends and family echoed the message, “Look twice. Save a life,” urging drivers to be more vigilant at intersections to prevent tragedies like this one.
