Belize — Tillett’s Bus Crew Leaves Student Miles From Her Stop, Witness Outraged

A Belizean woman is speaking out after witnessing a troubling incident involving a young student who was left miles away from her stop by the crew of a Tillett’s Bus Service.

The event has sparked outrage online, raising concerns about the safety of minors who rely on public transportation.

According to the witness, the incident happened around 4:10 p.m. on a bus heading toward Corozal.

A young girl, estimated to be 12 or 13 years old and dressed in a Pallotti uniform, signaled the conductor and clearly called out, “Right yah,” indicating where she needed to get off.

Instead of stopping, the conductor allegedly looked at her and responded, “Me noh kay bout she,” before ignoring her entirely.

The witness tapped the conductor to alert him again, but the crew continued to disregard the child’s request.

The girl, now in tears, remained at the front of the bus as it drove past her stop and continued for approximately three miles.

When the bus finally stopped in a desolate stretch of road with no houses in sight, both the driver and conductor reportedly laughed and said that if she boarded again the next day, they would take her “way da chiny mek eh learn eh lesson.”

The woman, disturbed by the treatment of the student, confronted the conductor, asking who would take responsibility if harm came to the child.

She was allegedly dismissed, and another passenger tried to justify the incident by claiming the bus “doesn’t stop in Los Lagos.”

The witness strongly disagreed with this reasoning. She emphasized that:

1. It was a regular bus, not an express service.
2. The crew accepted the student’s fare without warning her about any restrictions.
3. The girl was clearly a first-form student in uniform — still a child who needed protection.

The woman later shared her account on social media, expressing frustration at how situations like this reveal deeper societal issues.

“All systems are failing Belizeans,” she wrote. “And I don’t blame the government — I blame us.”

Her post has since drawn widespread criticism of the bus crew’s behavior, with many calling for accountability and better protection for students using public transportation.

Community members are urging authorities to investigate the incident and ensure that similar situations do not happen again.
