Chambersburg Coach Jerry Keyser’s Death Leaves a Lasting Legacy in Coaching, Teaching, and Community

Gerald D. “Jerry” Keyser, 90, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2026.

His death marks the end of a remarkable life as a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, administrator, and friend.

Those who knew him remember him not only for his dedication to education and athletics but also for the personal impact he made on countless students and colleagues.

Jeff Propst shared his grief, writing,

His words reflect what many in the community have expressed: Coach Keyser shaped lives far beyond the classroom and playing field.

Former students and athletes echoed similar feelings. Joni Weaverling remembered him as approachable and kind, while Keith Beaver emphasized how Coach Keyser pushed his players to grow both as athletes and as people.

Patti Rock Besecker described him as irreplaceable, and Tim Monn credited him with being his favorite coach in high school football.

Their tributes reveal the respect and admiration he consistently earned throughout his career.

Though his passing brings sorrow, Jerry Keyser’s life stands as a testament to leadership, fairness, and compassion.

His influence extended through generations, teaching lessons that lasted long after the final whistle of a game or the last day of school.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In of his memory, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization he deeply valued.
