Darlington, South Carolina, is mourning the sudden loss of Royce Blackmon, a 21-year-old golf player from Clemson University who passed away on August 30, 2026.

His unexpected death has left the community in shock, but the cause of his passing is not public yet.

Born as Royce L. Blackmon, he grew up in Darlington with his parents, Maggie and Roy, and his brother, Rivers, whom he loved deeply.

Royce enjoyed hunting, fishing, and driving his GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck. These activities made him happy. He always spent time with the people he cared about.

Royce attended Darlington High School and formed lifelong friendships there, and later studied at Clemson University and played on the golf team.

He was proud to represent his school. Royce also worked at Domtar, a local mill where he loved his job and maintaing a close relationship with his coworkers.

Royce had a special way of making people feel welcome with his big smile and kind heart, which touched everyone.

He could talk to anyone, a stranger or a friend, and loved joking, helping others, and sharing stories about hunting and fishing.

His best friend, Hunter, wrote a heartfelt message remembering his longtime best friend on instagram,

“Royce, you’ve been my best friend since sixth grade. Thank you for all our memories. Just two weeks ago, we talked about life for 30 minutes. You were so excited about work. I didn’t know it would be our last talk. Your humor and love made every room brighter. I know you’re hunting doves in heaven now. I’ll always remember our times stealing road signs or laughing at lunch. You’ll live on in my heart forever.”

At Domtar, Royce found a close friend in Ethan English. They called each other “Buddyroe” and became best friends quickly.

They bonded over hunting, fishing, and playing pranks. They also hung out outside work, fishing and hunting together.

Ethan said,

“We were like ‘Dumb and Dumber’ or ‘The Wonder Twins.’ We worked so well together. Royce always helped without being asked. His smile lit up the room. We’d stay up all night fishing or hanging out. I loved him like a brother. I know he’s watching over me now.”

Additionally, Royce’s friends shared how much he meant to them.

Mackenzie Andrews Amerson knew Royce in school. She said,

“To know Royce was to love him. He had a sweet soul and a big heart. He made every room brighter. I’ll always cherish our memories”

Also, she asked everyone to pray for Royce’s family.

Abby McKnight, Royce’s cousin, shared her grief.

“Royce was my best friend. There was never a dull moment with him. I’ll miss our boat days, dirt road rides, and long talks. I don’t understand why this happened, but I trust God’s plan. Royce, I know you’re shining in heaven. I love you forever.”

Chelsea Andrews, Royce’s ex-girlfriend, wrote about their time together.

“I had a crush on Royce growing up. When we dated, his love meant everything to me. He had a huge heart. I’ll always carry a piece of him with me. I know I’ll see him again someday.”

He was more than just a golfer or worker; he was a son, brother, and friend who lived life to the fullest.

His love for the outdoors and his laughter brought people together. Now, the community is sharing stories and photos to honor him.

The family welcomes friends to visit at the home of Rodney and Judy Langley at 118 Oakview Drive, Darlington, South Carolina.

Royce Blackmon was truly special, who lived with passion and love. Whether he was playing golf, fishing with friends, or working at the mill, he made every moment count.

His friends promise to keep his memory alive. As Hunter said, “Royce, you’ll never know the impact you had. I’ll make sure you live on.”

Though Royce is gone, his light remains, and Darlington will never forget him.
