Coach Corey Buttone’s Death Leaves The John Curtis Christian School Community In Mourning

Students, teachers, and alumni reflect on the coach’s lifelong impact on athletics and faith.

The John Curtis Christian School (JCCS) community is mourning the loss of longtime coach Corey Buttone, who passed away peacefully and, as the school shared, “entered his eternal home.”

His death marks the end of an era for JCCS athletics, where he devoted decades to shaping the lives of young athletes.

Since joining John Curtis Christian School in 1970, Coach Buttone became a cornerstone of the athletic department.

He mentored generations of student-athletes, instilling lessons of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance that extended beyond the playing field.

The school announced his passing with heavy hearts, asking for continued prayers for his family, friends, and the countless students he influenced.

“Coach Corey was the engine behind the John Curtis football success,” alumnus Philip Younger, recalling how Buttone not only taught fundamentals but also recruited and nurtured talent from the community.

His influence went far beyond X’s and O’s, leaving an imprint on the values and character of his players.

News of Corey Buttone’s death prompted an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from former students, colleagues, and friends.

Many described him as a mentor, a father figure, and a man of deep faith.

Former player Dex Ryan Thibodeaux shared,

Others echoed similar sentiments, highlighting his unique ability to connect with athletes on both a personal and professional level.

Alumnus James Guerra called him “a father to the fatherless for so many,” while E.D. Smith, who once coached alongside him, remembered Buttone as “a Coach who totally loved all kids and gave them 100% of his time, knowledge and effort.”

Buttone’s reach stretched into classrooms, playgrounds, and even weekend gatherings.

Friends like Earl Lombardo remembered sharing Saturday morning breakfasts with him at Dot’s Diner, where conversations flowed about sports, politics, and life.

“He was one of a kind, never to be duplicated, and never forgotten,” Lombardo .

The community agreed that “everyone has a Coach Corey story.”

Whether through football drills, words of encouragement, or everyday interactions, Buttone’s presence left lasting memories that continue to inspire those who knew him.

As tributes continue to pour in, it is clear that Corey Buttone’s death has left a profound void in the JCCS family.

Yet, his legacy lives on through the athletes he coached, the students he taught, and the lives he touched with his unwavering faith and dedication.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but the school promised to share details once available.

In the meantime, the Patriot community holds close the memory of a man who gave his life to building not just champions on the field, but strong, faithful individuals off it.

Rest in peace, Coach Corey. Your lessons, love, and leadership will never be forgotten.
