Coach Gene Perkins AKA Coach “P” Passed Away, Leaving Behind His Loving Family And A Legacy Of Mentorship!

Gene Perkins, lovingly known as Coach “P,” passed away on Monday, October 13, 2026, at the age of 83.

He was a longtime resident of Britt and died at MercyOne, North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City.

As of now, the cause of his death is under wraps, and his family has requested privacy during this heartbreaking time.

Gene Perkins Dedicated Much Of His Life To Mentoring Young Athletes!

Coach Perkins was a beloved figure in the West Hancock community, especially among football players and Eagle fans.

He was a former teacher and coach at Tripoli. Known for his spirit and dedication, many remembered him as both a coach and a mentor.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, students, friends, and the entire community.

Many took to social media to honor Coach Gene Perkins, sharing heartfelt memories and messages of gratitude.

Former players, students, and community members posted tributes celebrating his legacy, referring to him as Coach ‘P’ and Dr. Spirit.

One of his and paid tribute, writing:

Coach ‘P’ and Dr. Spirit. Rest in Peace. If you went to West Hancock, played football, or were a huge EAGLE 🦅 fan, you knew this guy.

His passing has deeply touched his family, friends, and former students.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made at their discretion.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Monday, October 20, at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Britt.

Moreover, visitation will take place the evening before, Sunday, October 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home.
