Kendrick Johnson was Arrested for Drug Trafficking

A local high school coach has been relieved of his duties following his arrest this week on serious drug charges.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrested 44-year-old Kendrick Johnson on Wednesday.

Johnson faces multiple felony charges, including trafficking a synthetic narcotic, using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, and racketeering violation.

In response to the arrest, a spokesperson for Escambia County Public Schools confirmed that the district no longer employs Johnson.

Escambia County Public Schools has been made aware of the arrest of an individual who was a coach at one of our schools. We find these allegations, if proven true, to be reprehensible. This employee was terminated immediately after we were made aware of these charges. As always, we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement as the investigation unfolds. Our commitment to the safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority.

The alleged actions are counter to the values and standards Escambia County Public Schools uphold for all district employees.

Although Johnson’s charge indicated a serious offense, the sheriff’s office has not released specific details about the investigation that led to the arrest.

Trafficking charges typically involve the possession or sale of large quantities of illegal substances.

According to jail records, Johnson was released from the Escambia County Jail after posting a $70,000 bond. However, the case remains an active investigation.

The school district emphasized its commitment to student safety and the integrity of its staff, swiftly severing ties with the coach following the serious allegations.
