Former Jefferson High School Basketball Player Shawn Dailey, 58, Passed Away, Leaving Kids and Mother Heartbroken!

Shawn also played basketball at Marion University.

A beloved member of Lafayette, Indiana, Shawn Dailey, passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 58.

Shawn is survived by his son, Drew Dailey, and his wife, Ashley; his daughter, Emily Dailey; and his mother, Virginia Ann Dailey.

He was a family man, and some of his happiest times were spent in the backyard, playing basketball with his son, Drew, and his nephew, teaching them the sport he cherished.

Likewise, Shawn also leaves behind his siblings, Kim Rusk and her husband, Ronnie; Jim Dailey and his wife, Cheryl; and many extended family members.

Whereas Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Richard Dailey, and his daughter, Katherine Dailey.

Shawn was born on November 3, 1966, to his mother, Virginia Ann Dailey, and his late father, Thomas Richard Dailey.

He grew up in Lafayette and was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, where he made a name for himself as an outstanding basketball player. In fact, he set the school record for the most points scored.

Even after high school, continued his basketball career at Marion University.

Above all, basketball was more than just a game for Shawn. From his days playing at Marion University to cheering on the Indiana Pacers during their exciting run to the finals, he loved every moment of it.

Likewise, Shawn worked in construction for many years, always putting care and pride into his work.

He was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, loved watching his favorite movie, Hoosiers, and never missed a chance to dig into the food at family holiday gatherings.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor him on Saturday, September 6, 2026, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Tippecanoe Funeral Home and Cremation Services, located at 3631 Morehouse Rd, West Lafayette, IN 47906.

During this difficult time, we pray for the strength of Shawn’s kids, mother, siblings, friends, and extended family.
