A former NFL player and high school coach, Chris Kluwe, was arrested after speaking at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting in February 2026.

Chris Kluwe is a former NFL punter who played eight seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

During his time with the Vikings, he also gained national attention for his outspoken support of same-sex marriage and LGBTQ+ rights, which reportedly led to tension with the coaching staff.

After being released following the 2012 season, Kluwe briefly signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2013 but was released before the start of the season.

Unable to secure another NFL contract, he retired from professional football later that year.

After retiring, he transitioned into a multifaceted public figure, becoming an author, gamer, and fierce advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and social justice.

Chris Kluwe Was Arrested After His Public Speech At A Huntington Beach City Council Meeting!

, a former NFL punter and current California Assembly candidate, was arrested in February 2026 during a Huntington Beach City Council meeting.

He passionately criticized a library display that spelled out “MAGA” using book spines.

Moreover, he called the movement a “Nazi movement” and shouted about “fascism” before storming the dais.

Police had to physically remove him for disrupting the meeting. Kluwe later described his actions as “civil disobedience,” but the incident sparked backlash.

He spent around four hours in jail before being released and was cited for disrupting an assembly.

Shortly after the incident, he was fired from his high school coaching job, and despite the controversy, he’s now running for public office.

He claims the school said it was because the situation had drawn too much attention.
