Fowlerville’s Football Coach Charles Richard Brigham’s Death Leaves a Lasting Legacy in Education, Athletics, and Community

From classrooms to athletic fields, his influence shaped lives both on and off the field.

Charles Richard Brigham, 87, of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, in the same town where his life began on August 9, 1938.

His death marks the end of a remarkable journey defined by devotion to education, athletics, and community service.

From his early years, Charles embodied commitment and passion.

A proud of Howell High School’s Class of 1956, he met the love of his life and best friend, Judith Otto, during his time there.

They married on January 30, 1960, in Fenton, Michigan, and went on to share 65 years of unwavering love and partnership.

Charles pursued higher education with dedication, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Central Michigan University.

In 1970, he furthered his academic path with a Master’s in Administration from Michigan State University.

His professional career began in 1960 at Fowlerville Community Schools, where he served for 35 years as a teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and assistant superintendent.

His impact on athletics was profound. As head coach of the Fowlerville football team and also as a basketball and baseball coach, Charles shaped the lives of countless student-athletes.

In 1995, the Fowlerville Football Field was renamed in his honor, ensuring that his influence would endure for generations.

Outside of his professional life, Charles embraced passions that reflected his love for tradition and camaraderie.

He was an avid hunter, a loyal sports fan, and an active member of the retired Fowlerville Teachers Hunting Group, cherishing their annual trips to Drummond Island.

He also raised beagles for field trials and proudly supported Fowlerville Athletics long after his retirement.

Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Brigham; his children, Randy (Cindy) Brigham, Christyn (Toby) Blosser, and Cathy Brigham; his grandchildren, Garrett (Yana) Brigham, Cameron (Brooke) Brigham, Brady Blosser, and Eliza Blosser; his granddog, Wynter; and his brother, William Brigham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Clare and Marian (Parker) Brigham, and his siblings, “Sonny” C. Brigham and Carolyn Krueger.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and no formal services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fowlerville Athletics, honoring the spirit of the game that Charles so deeply cherished.
