Haywood Senior Brelan Targeted with Racist Slurs During Football Game — Now Facing Assault Charges for Defending Himself

What should have been another routine Friday night high school football game turned into a nightmare for Haywood High senior Brelan Holloway.

Known for his bright spirit, kindness, and dedication both on and off the field, Brelan became the target of repeated racist slurs by a player from the opposing team — the coach’s own son.

Despite the verbal attacks, Brelan maintained his composure throughout the game, showing remarkable restraint under circumstances that would challenge even adults.

Unfortunately, the harassment did not end on the field. After the game, when the insults continued, emotions boiled over, leading to an altercation.

Shockingly, instead of being protected from the racial abuse, Brelan now faces assault charges.

Brelan’s family describes him as a gentle giant — a student, a son, and a teammate with a bright future ahead.

“It’s devastating to see him carrying the weight of a situation that began with hate and disrespect he never should’ve been subjected to,” his aunt, speaking on behalf of the family.

In response to the legal battle, the family initially created a GoFundMe to help cover attorney fees and ensure Brelan could tell his side of the story.

While the fundraising page was removed, the family remains committed to supporting him.

Donations to Brelan’s mother’s CashApp, AprilH2xx, are still being accepted, along with prayers, shares, and moral support.

“This young man deserves understanding, not punishment,” the family said. “With your help, we can make sure his voice is heard and that he has a fair chance to protect his future.”

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges that young athletes face in confronting racism and the critical need for fair legal protections when they defend themselves.

Brelan Holloway’s story is a stark reminder that acts of hate should never lead to further victimization.
