Family Demands Justice After Teen Killed in Las Vegas Park Robbery
A family in East Las Vegas is mourning the loss of a son and brother, and demanding that all those responsible for his death be held fully accountable.
Julio Bravo, who was just 17, was shot and killed at a local basketball court early Monday morning after he refused to hand over his belongings during an attempted robbery.
The senseless violence has left his family heartbroken and calling for justice.
According to police reports, Julio and his friend were at the East Las Vegas Family Park when they were approached by two masked individuals armed with guns.
The suspects demanded his friend’s bag. However, Julio bravely refused to surrender it, and the situation escalated dramatically, and shots were fired.
Tragically, Julio was hit and died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. His death has been officially ruled a homicide.
Likewise, his friend was also injured by bullet fragments and sustained an injury to her wrist.
It’s just a hard time for our whole family. Just being in the house, everything reminds me of him.
Authorities arrested three teenagers in connection with the killing.
The alleged shooter, Jose Juarez, is facing a long list of serious charges, including open murder and attempted murder. He is being tried as an adult because he is turning 18 next month.
However, the two other suspects are currently facing charges in juvenile court.
The Bravo family believes all three suspects should be charged as adults, arguing that their actions were deliberate and that they pose a massive threat to the community.
We’re asking that these defendants are not released. They are a major, major danger to our community. Although they might be minors, their actions were that of adults. Their actions speak more than their age, and therefore they should be held to that adult standard.
Furthermore, Julio’s dream of keeping his family safe was ended by a violent act that began with a desperate plan to get gas money.
The driver of the suspects’ car told police they had run out of fuel. It was then that Jose Juarez suggested robbing someone, which led them to the park where Julio Bravo was playing basketball.
Juarez is being held without bail and is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing in October.
As the legal process begins, a family is left to remember a young life ended far too soon, clinging to the hope that full justice will be served.
Rest in Peace, Julio Bravo.
