A mother revealed that her son, an honor student and athlete, was verbally attacked in the Highland High School locker room by three adult men, including one without a coaching license.
The coaches cornered him, screamed, cursed, and demanded he transfer, mocking him with names like “Pius boy” and “rich boy.”
Despite evidence and a witness recording, the school administration and APS allegedly ignored her repeated reports.
The incident led to her son being removed from the basketball team without notice.
Later, his hardship transfer was deliberately mishandled, leaving him ineligible to play his senior year.

Crystal Martinez posted a detailed account on Facebook, focusing on exposing APS and NMAA for covering up the assault and denying her son’s right to play basketball.
She emphasized the systemic failures, the ignored complaints, and the lack of accountability from school officials.
Clementine Kenton later shared the post, adding her own perspective:
It’s a shame that they’re treating kids like this at school… shame on for the principal and the coaches to do this to kids.
Martinez concluded her post by calling for justice, pledging to pursue legal action.
She is even considering protests or petitions to ensure her son’s story is heard and the responsible parties are held accountable.
Community members shared their perspectives, highlighting their own painful experiences and offering support.
One parent said,
My daughter was in a similar situation with a softball coach. They let it slide even after multiple complaints from myself and recorded video. My daughter was even injured to the point of never being able to play sports again!! It wasn’t until a group of parents got together and complained that they listened And looked into it and finally fired the coach. Keep speaking up, if they are getting away with it there has to be others. Find them and speak out together.
Another commenter suggested,
Try to contact the writers of the Basketball movie we just watched, might have in sight.
Likewise, her post saying:
It’s a shame that they’re treating kids like this at school they’re not going to be able to go to no schools at all if they keep on like this shame on for the principal and the coaches to do this to kids they love sports let them play their sports and you stay off of their backs
As these abuses are increasing by the day, they need to be addressed with accountability and immediate action.
