Parents and students at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa County received some troubling news on Thursday evening, December 18, 2026, when the school system sent out a message about the arrest of a faculty member named Tyler Armistad.

The superintendent, Dr. Daniel Bray, just recently took on the job. He wrote the alert to let everyone know that Armistad had been charged with having inappropriate contact with a student, and he wanted to get ahead of any rumors that might spread.

In the message, Bray explained that Armistad, who works as a coach and faculty member at the school, was taken into custody that day and is now facing serious charges.

These include first-degree sexual abuse and a specific count for a school employee engaging in sexual contact with a student.

Meanwhile, Armistad has been placed on administrative leave right away, which means he can’t come back to the Hillcrest campus at all while everything gets sorted out.

Because this involves law enforcement, Bray said any more details about what happened would have to come from the police, not the school.

The Tuscaloosa County School System made it clear that they hold their staff to high standards and expect everyone to act professionally and responsibly.

They take any report of wrongdoing very seriously and always work closely with authorities to make sure things are handled properly.

Above all, the safety and well-being of the students come first, no matter what.

Bray also pointed out that privacy laws limit what the district can say publicly about situations involving student or staff investigations.

He wanted families to understand that just because the school stays quiet on specifics, it doesn’t mean they are ignoring the problem or failing to investigate thoroughly.

Jail records from Tuscaloosa County show that Armistad was booked on December 18, 2026, and as of that night, his bond had not been set yet.

The investigation is being handled by the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, focusing on sexual crimes, and the school system is cooperating fully.

On learning the exclusive news, a person wrote, “I pray any child that has dealt with this finds the courage to come forward . Staying silent helps no one . Coming forward will not only help you but could save many others !
