In the youth basketball game, Halley Ann Hrch described how her son was bullied from the very start, being hooked, shoved, and slapped by the opposing player guarding him.
She noted that while she has footage of the physical fouls, what wasn’t captured were the racial slurs and “downright nasty things” said to her child throughout the entire game.
Despite this constant harassment, referees failed to intervene, allowing the situation to worsen.
By the final quarter, after a lopsided foul count of 14 against Hrch’s team compared to just 1 against the other, the conflict reached a breaking point.
Opposing coaches then ran onto the court and verbally assaulted her son. Hrch was left appalled at both the referees’ silence and the coaches’ misconduct.

On Facebook, her son on the court, expressing her outrage and disappointment.
She wrote,
“I’ve been deeply disturbed by this all day long because—really—how dare you. Kids yelling at kids? Expected. Adults cursing at kids because they’re upset over a no-call? Inexcusable.”
She detailed the backstory of her son’s treatment throughout the game, including racial slurs and physical fouls, and condemned the referees for failing to act.
In her comments, she added that when her coach asked referees to stop the opposing coaches from addressing players, the officials dismissed him, saying:
that’s on you. Take it up with him in the parking lot after the game.
Hrch concluded her post by demanding accountability, calling for the coaches to apologize to the players they verbally assaulted and to her son’s coach.
People reacting to Hrch’s post shared their perspectives, highlighting their frustration and shared similar stories.
One commenter said,
This season of life is proving to never cease to amaze me. The behavior that some people think is acceptable actually boggles my mind. It’s extremely upsetting but I really have to double down on keeping our chins up and our chests out. That behavior says more about them than it does my children or my family.
Another shared their point of view, saying,
I was there, and my son was in the student section for male and he said St X coaches were saying stuff to our players the whole time! Haworth was upset and told them not to address his players. Then the end was absolutely ridiculous… The fact that they tweeted and posted all the things targeting the public school coach is ridiculous without mentioning what the X coach did all game.
Tha above case brought into focus the urgent need for accountability in youth sports.
A child who was bullied both physically and verbally was left unprotected by referees, then targeted by adult coaches whose behavior was inexcusable.
