He had recently started his career as a firefighter with the Columbus Fire & EMS department in June 2026.
Beyond public service, Ja’Kobe was also a passionate YouTube Gaming creator.

Before his passing, he had posted a cryptic Facebook message saying, “Ja’Kobe Smith has left the chat.”
This was shared through his social media account under the name .
At first, many people saw Ja’Kobe Smith’s message as just another random post typical of internet humor.
But as hours passed and news of his death surfaced, the meaning behind those words took on a heartbreaking clarity.
Following his passing, many people urged others not to distance themselves from friends and family.
They even warned that such isolation could lead to tragic outcomes, saying:
People that don’t suffer from depression or mental illness don’t mind expressing their feelings, asking for help, or wearing what they’re feeling on the inside on the outside of them. It’s the ones that always smiling, always being there for others, always up and never down, always never having a moment of breaking down around those they love, always seems strong, never need and anybody but always there for everybody be the ones suffering in silence fighting battles that folks have no idea about. CHECK ON YOUR ALWAYS SMILING NEVER DOWN FRIENDS! Trust me those are the ones that need the support the most!
Likewise, another said:
You’re no longer hurting and at peace. May God cover your family.
We never know what a person is going through. Even when you ask them if they are ok and they say yes most likely they are not. Hug your family and tell them you love them.
Funeral and the celebration of his life are yet to be planned, and the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Ja’Kobe Smith’s family, friends, and well-wishers. Rest in Peace!
Let’s all check in on those closest to us and never let anyone feel isolated or alone because connection can be life-saving.
