Brentten Young’s death has left the Pomeroy community, the local fire service, and countless loved ones grieving the loss of a dedicated firefighter and a deeply loved individual.

The Pomeroy Fire Department the unexpected passing of Senior Firefighter Brentten Young, known to his fellow firefighters as Unit 26, on the morning of January 10, 2026.

Young joined the Pomeroy Fire Department on October 4, 2015, beginning his journey as a junior firefighter.

Over the next decade, he built a reputation for professionalism, commitment, and selfless service.

Through years of hard work and countless volunteer hours, Young rose through the ranks and became one of Station 1’s most respected firefighters.

His peers recognized his leadership, knowledge, and integrity when they elected him to serve as a lieutenant during the 2026–2026 election cycle.

Even after the department reduced the number of officer positions, Young continued to serve without hesitation.

He carried out his duties with pride, humility, and an unmistakable dedication to helping others in moments of crisis.

In a statement, the Pomeroy Fire Department honored Young’s courage and passion, noting that his benchmarks and example would continue to guide firefighters as they answer future calls for service.

The department extended heartfelt condolences to his parents, siblings, family members, and friends, acknowledging how deeply loved he was both within and beyond the firehouse. Funeral arrangements will be announced at the family’s convenience.

Outside of his service, Brentten Young touched lives through friendship, kindness, and loyalty.

Friends and coworkers described him as dependable, generous, and always willing to lend a hand—whether on a fire scene or in everyday life.

Many recalled his laughter, his love for music, and the way he brightened rooms simply by walking into them.
