Malachi Toney, an American college football wide receiver for the Miami Hurricanes, credits his athletic success to his parents, Antonio Brown and Shatravia “Toni” Toney.

He grew up in an athletic household and gets his work ethic from his mother.

Malachi Toney began playing football at American Heritage High School, where MaxPreps named him the 2026 2026 Florida High School Football Player of the Year.

Initially, he was part of the 2026 recruiting class but reclassified to the 2026 class in September 2026. Later, he committed to the University of Miami to play college football.

Toney entered his true freshman season as a starting wide receiver for the Hurricanes in 2026 and made his collegiate debut in the season opener against Notre Dame.

He was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year, and received First-team All-ACC recognition.

Malachi Toney’s Mother Engineered His Success

Malachi Toney gets his work ethic from his mother, Shatravia “Toni” Toney.

His days begin in the quiet, dark hours before sunrise, at 4:55 a.m. His first lesson in discipline comes not from a coach, but from his mother.

Malachi learned the core principle of getting up early and staying late from his mother.

He mirrors his mother’s schedule and arrives at every practice a full 30 minutes early. It became his foundation during pivotal moments.

When his high school coach hesitated about him reclassifying to the 2026 class last September, Toni stood firmly behind her son’s decision.

Similarly, that same support was there again when he aligned with the NETWORK basketball program.

I had some coaches ask me, ‘Do you think he’s ready? Is that a smart idea?’ For 99 percent of kids, I would say, ‘No.’ But for Malachi? I knew that kid was ready. This is what he’s been wanting to do his whole life.
