Darlene Herrera requested on social media that netizens join her to get justice for her son, Anthony, who was stabbed downtown on September 30, 2026.
Anthony was stabbed on the left side of the neck, hitting the main artery, and passed away instantly before the paramedics could even arrive.
Homicide is the act of one person causing the death of another. While sometimes accidental, when it is done intentionally or through reckless actions, it is considered a serious crime.
The immediate consequence for a person convicted of murder is a long-term prison sentence.
A judge will decide the length based on the details of the case, but it often means decades behind bars. In some places, the most severe punishment can be a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
A loss of freedom defines prison life. Inmates lose the right to make their own choices about when to eat, sleep, or see their loved ones. They are often separated from their family and friends, missing out on significant life events.
Beyond the prison walls, the effects are far-reaching. The victim’s family suffers an unimaginable and permanent loss. The family of the person who committed the crime also suffers from shame and the prolonged absence of their family member.
A single act of violence creates a chain of pain and loss that lasts forever.
Oregon Mother Fights for Justice After Son’s Fatal Stabbing
An Oregon mother is living a nightmare, crying herself to sleep every night while the man accused of killing her son sits in jail awaiting trial.
Darlene Herrera’s world shattered on September 30, 2026. Her son, Anthony Matthew Hartley, was downtown when he was brutally attacked.
According to Herrera, Anthony was simply sitting on a bench with his back turned when a man came up behind him and stabbed him in the neck.
The wound hit a main artery, and Anthony, who loved basketball and playing pool, died instantly before paramedics could arrive.
I’m very fustrated. My son isn’t playing pool basketball and having a good time. This loser needs to pay for what he did to my son. I’m having a horrible time trying to sleep and eat.
I’m just very sad and have a empty place in my heart. I cry everyday and night. I cry myself to sleep. I can’t eat I’m losing so much weight.
Her grief is compounded by immense frustration with the legal process. The suspect was released from a mental hospital and is now being held at the Everness jail.
His incarceration isn’t justice for Herrera, but a waiting game that has gone on for far too long.
Thus, she is taking her fight public, declaring that she is done waiting. She plans to meet with the District Attorney, make signs, and organize a march downtown to demand action.
PLEASE JOIN ME GET JUSTICE FOR ANTHONY. I’M DONE NO PARENT SHOULD HAVE BARRY THERE KIDS THATS JUST WRONG.
