Eddie Kaufman, a Throop, Pennsylvania native and student-athlete at Roanoke University, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, at the untimely age of 20 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
According, Eddie Kaufman was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of cancer that impacts blood tissues and bone marrow, in October 2026 and bravely fought the battle for a year.
Eddie took his last breath at the Children’s Hospital (CHOP) in Philadelphia, where he was getting medical treatments.
His father, Brian W. Kaufman, took to his social media to announce the untimely death of Eddie Kaufam and express his sorrow.
The post reads:
“One of the lions of our family went off to paradise this morning. Early this morning, under a full harvest moon, our son Eddie Kaufman peacefully drifted off in his sleep at CHOP in Philadelphia. Melissa and I were fortunate to be at his bedside. The battle Eddie fought against leukemia was epic, and we will share some of the things Eddie shared with us in private over the past few weeks. He really, truly loved his friends, teammates, coaches and family.We appreciate all the support, prayers, and inspiration you provided to Eddie and our family over the past year. We will miss him dearly. Please continue to pray for him. It was such an honor to be his father.”
The untimely passing of Eddie Kaufman has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones. He was a cherished member of the Pennsylvania community, touching the lives of many with his exceptional athletic skills and kind, cheerful nature.
Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Eddie Kaufman and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
Eddie Kaufman is survived by his parents, Brian W. Kaufman and Melissa Scanlan Kaufman, younger sister, Mae, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and his loved ones.
He was a sophomore at Roanoke University and was a key player on their men’s baseball team, The Maroons.
Standing at a towering height of 6’2” and playing as an outfielder, in 12 games, making eight starts in the outfield during his freshman year; however, he didn’t compete in his sophomore year due to his deteriorating health condition.
Eddie Kaufman Was a Former Mid Valley High School Multi-Sports Athlete
Prior to joining Roanoke as an exceptional baseball player,made significant strides during his time at Mid Valley High School, from which he graduated in 2026.
He excelled as both a center fielder and a right-handed pitcher.
Known for his exceptional athleticism, Eddie ran a 6.64 60-yard dash and recorded impressive top velocities in the outfield (92 mph) and on the mound (86 mph).
A dual-sport athlete, Eddie also had a remarkable career in golf, earning multiple accolades, including winning the Bob Simons Classic in 2026.
Throughout his high school career, Eddie was a varsity starter for all four years, earning numerous awards and recognitions.
He was a 1st Team All-Star for the Lackawanna League in 2026 and 2026, and in 2026, he was selected as the team captain.
Similarly, he received the Greg Legg Diamond Scholarship Award and was named the LIAA Scholar-Athlete, showcasing his excellence both on the field and in the classroom, where he maintained a 3.92 GPA.
Eddie’s baseball journey included playing for the Dickson City Legion 665 and participating in notable showcases such as Perfect Game and Baseball Factory.
He was recognized as a top prospect in the state, ranked as the 9th best outfielder in Pennsylvania by Perfect Game.
Likewise, his dedication to his craft also earned him the Mid Valley Baseball Scholarship Award and a spot on Perfect Game’s Top Prospect List.
Eddie Kaufman’s legacy in the sports field and his remarkable journey in high school and college will always be remembered.
