In the early hours of Saturday, October 18, 2026, a devastating accident left Ryan Dent critically injured after a hit-and-run incident on Route 51 in Allegany County, Maryland.
According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, Ryan lost control of his vehicle near Lower Town Creek Road, causing it to roll over and block the roadway.
After the crash, Ryan to get out of the vehicle with the help of other motorists.
While he was standing on the road, a light-colored pickup truck drove by and struck him before turning around and fleeing south on Route 51.
Emergency responders immediately rushed to the scene, and Ryan was airlifted by Maryland State Police Trooper 5 to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnston, Pennsylvania.
He sustained severe injuries and was listed in critical condition.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Team conducted an on-site investigation and is urging anyone with information about the suspect vehicle to call 301-777-1585.
The roadway remained closed for approximately two hours as emergency crews responded.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Maryland State Police, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services, local fire departments, and rescue squads.
The Dent family faced a heartbreaking ordeal that morning.
Ryan’s mother, Jeanette Dent, shared emotional updates on social media, expressing her pain and frustration.
“I sure in the hell hope someone speaks up. How does someone do this and leave with him laying in the road?” she shortly after the incident.
Jeanette shared that Ryan underwent multiple surgeries on both legs.
He was placed on a breathing tube and kept sedated as doctors stabilized his condition.
The following day, he underwent a second surgery to insert a rod in his right leg.
“Everything went good, but the poor guy is in a lot of pain,” Jeanette in another update.
“Both legs are fixed and ready for recovery. It’s going to be a rough road, but we are thankful for everyone’s love and support.”
Ryan’s condition has slowly improved since the surgeries. He has been taken off the ventilator and is now able to talk to his family.
The Dent family continues to ask for prayers and community support as Ryan begins what will be a long and challenging recovery process.
The family expressed deep gratitude to friends, relatives, and community members who have offered love, prayers, and assistance during this time.
Authorities continue to search for the light-colored pickup truck involved in the hit-and-run.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the vehicle or has any information related to the crash to come forward.
“This family deserves justice,” Jeanette said. “We’re asking anyone who knows anything to please speak up.”
The community has come together, sharing Ryan’s story widely to help identify the suspect.
