Allegations of racism at Chesterton High School ignited concern among parents, students, and community members.
Julian Blevins, a student at the school, shared that he has been repeatedly subjected to racial slurs, including the N-word, since seventh grade, and claims the school has not addressed these incidents.
In a detailed post at Chesterton High School parents, Blevins recounted a recent experience in which he received a racist letter just days before winter break. Blevins wrote,
“I told my teacher it happened in her classroom, not to accuse her, but because it happened in her presence,” “I was suspended for ‘disrespect.’ All I did was speak up about what happened. Speaking up got me punished, not protected.”

Blevins emphasized that the harassment is ongoing.
Coming back from break, it’s still happening. I was called the N-word again over messages—the same word that gets brushed off like it’s nothing. People call me derogatory names and act like I’m supposed to just take it.”
He criticized the school’s handling of complaints, noting a double standard:
“Last year at Chesterton Middle School, I reported several racist incidents, and they’d ask me, ‘Do you have proof?’ But when I make a mistake, they don’t ask for proof—they just give me detention or suspension.”
The student acknowledged that he enjoys spreading positivity and kindness, but said he feels unfairly targeted because of his race. He ,
“I take responsibility when I’m wrong, but I just want justice when I’m right,”
Blevins called on parents to talk with their children about racism, highlighting that the issue affects all students of color, not just him personally.
Community response has been swift, with many expressing outrage at the alleged lack of accountability from the school.
Maya Nunn, who originally shared Blevins’ story on social media, wrote that the school is “avoiding accountability.”

Some parents also expressed concern for the broader school community. Vanessa Robinson asked,
There is a school board meeting tonight. Do you know if this disgusting situation is going to be addressed?

Put the teacher on blast.This is ridiculous and unfortunate. Anyone in that school who chooses to look the other way should be held accountable and walked.
Others noted that the responsibility extends beyond the school. Jamie Lynn Maisonneuve commented,
This is disgusting! And it’s also learned behavior so parents raise your children better! And I’m not surprised with Chesterton high school, I’ve heard so many times throughout the years !!!!

A teacher knows whose handwriting this is. People know who is calling him racial slurs. If this schools district wants to do something about it, they can. It’s not that hard. I’ll bet they’ve received other complaints and done nothing. Surely they have a disciplinary policy they can invoke and it should include racism. Even if it doesn’t, they can act and they are cowards and causing this abuse if they don’t.
Some commenters urged the student to seek additional support or protection.
Crystal Corona advised, “Please go to police,” while Lorrie Eagan Gloudeman requested a direct message to Blevins, noting she had information that could help “get this out here.”
Blevins’ post and the widespread social media response underscore a growing frustration among students of color and their families regarding how schools handle incidents of racism.
