Cari Spears is giving the seasoned players a run for their money as SEC Freshman of the Week, with 25 kills over nine sets.

Macaria “Cari” Reagan Spears isn’t just another name in the athletic world, the game runs in her DNA.

Born in 2007, Cari Spears is the daughter of two elite athletes, Marcus Spears and Aiysha Spears.

Marcus Spears, also known as “Swagu,” is a former NFL defensive end, and Aiysha Spears is a retired professional basketball player.

However, Cari isn’t the only star of the family; her brother Marcus Spears Jr. is cooking defenders on the basketball court.

Regarding her personal life, Cari Spears graduated from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Texas.

Currently, she is a freshman at the University of Texas, pursuing a degree in Physical Culture and Sports.

Although her journey into fame began as the daughter of Marcus Spears, Cari is building her own legacy in the volleyball world.

Cari’s sophomore years were a testament to her dedication, with the addition of major titles to her awards. Moreover, in 2026, Cari Spears claimed the title of Gatorade Texas Player of the Year with 554 kills.

Transitioning into her first year, she is representing the University of Texas as a Texas Longhorn. Cari Spears is an outside hitter on the university’s women’s volleyball team.

The D1 player is thriving as part of an undefeated squad that has been ranked No. 2 nationally due to its competitive nature.

The netizens couldn’t help but be swayed, as the volleyball star recorded a .039 over nine sets last week. Cari Spears had a breakout performance as she delivered 14 kills in a 3-2 win over Stanford and 11 more kills against Rice.

Following the match, in a weekly honors report, the Southeastern Conference announced the league’s players of the week.

Cari Spears shared the victory of SEC Freshman of the Week with Torrey Stafford, a junior outside hitter. Torrey Stafford was awarded both SEC Player of the Week and SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

In her first match of this week, Cari hit .385 while tallying 11 kills and eight digs in the game against the Owls.

She then proceeded to wrap up the week at Moody Center with 14 kills, six digs, and one block against the Cardinal.

As clips of her performance are circulating online, people are drawing a connection between Marcus Spears and his daughter.

And even though an athletic father-daughter duo makes for a compelling headline, she brings her own sass to the game.
