Jacob Cole, a local basketball player from Traverse City, Michigan, passed away at the age of 27 on September 27, 2026.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and loved playing basketball and wrestling with his nephews.

Jacob Cole, known as “Jake the Snake,” found joy in spending time with his family and friends. His bright personality brought light and laughter to everyone.

He loved life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, playing with his nephews, and caring for the family pets.

He was a fan of video games and anime, and some of his best moments were singing around a campfire with his family. These weren’t just hobbies, but they were how he showed his loving and vibrant spirit.

He built a legacy of love and laughter that will never be forgotten through these moments.

Remembering Jacob William “Jake the Snake” Cole

Jacob William Cole was a beacon of light and laughter who passed away at the age of 27 on September 27, 2026, in Traverse City, Michigan.

He was born on December 23, 1997, in Petoskey, Michigan.

Jacob was a kind and gentle soul whose caring nature touched everyone he met.

He was affectionately known by the nickname “Jake the Snake,” and his vibrant sense of humor brought immeasurable joy to countless moments shared with family and friends.

He was a man who openly showed his love and was remembered fondly for his legendary bear hugs, which could comfort and uplift anyone in his embrace.

Jacob leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish his memory.

He is survived by his grandmother, Sally Cole; his grandfather, Cal Westdorp; his father, John Cole; his mothers, Heather Westdorp and Tracy Cole; his sisters, Samantha Ash, Anna Cole, Brandi Waters, and Amanda Cole; and his brother, Joshua Nichols.

Likewise, he shared a close bond with his brother-in-law, Mickey Nelson; his nephews, Alexander, Declan, and Jaxson Nichols; and his niece, Kinsley Nelson.

On the other hand, his grandfather, Bill Cole, and his grandmother, Cindy Westdorp, preceded him in death.

Although his time on earth was far too short, his love and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength to those who mourn his profound loss.

The Cole family will hold Jacob’s Celebration of Life with Pastor Jacob Nicoletti officiating on Saturday, October 25, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Elmer Township Hall (Kittle Hall), 863 W. Kittle Rd., in Mio, Michigan.
