The tragedy in Tullahoma, Tennessee, unfolded when fifty‑year‑old James Alexander Smith passed away while desperately trying to protect his three‑month‑old granddaughter from a savage pit bull attack inside their home at 905 E. Warren Street.
A family member discovered the two victims and called 9‑1‑1, but Smith was already found deceased, clutching a baseball bat.
While police arrived on the scene, they witnessed the dogs still attacking the infant and were forced to kill the pit bulls to stop the attack.
The grandmother and six other children were not home at the time, but the aftermath left the family devastated.
The District Attorney’s office and DCS (Department of Children’s Services) are investigating this double fatality in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

On Facebook, Patti Wiseman posted an update titled “,” where she shared details provided directly by the family.
Her post focused on the heartbreaking loss of both Smith and his granddaughter, the dire condition of the home.
She emphasized the family’s repeated but unsuccessful attempts to get help with the dogs from shelters or animal control.
As a final note, she concluded her post by urging thoughts, prayers, and, importantly, support for the grieving family by donating or helping them rebuild a safe and stable environment.
Additionally, there is a GoFundMe campaign “” created by Ely Cournoyer on behalf of his fiancé’s grandmother, “Memaw,” with Sylvia Smith listed as the beneficiary.
The fundraiser explains that the family not only lost two precious lives but also their home and belongings, leaving Memaw to care for six children with no clothes, beds, or security.
Its main purpose is to cover funeral and memorial expenses, provide clothing and essentials for the children, secure temporary housing, and help Memaw rebuild a safe environment.
Community members and known local personalities have stepped forward to help the grieving family, offering both financial assistance and emotional strength.
One of their closest supporters advised them directly, saying:
“Best way to get money to the mother of the baby is CashApp: $TyleshiNicque92. I’m so very sorry ZZ. Your dad was an amazing man and just know he is taking care of your sweet angel in heaven.”
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, especially to the grandmother now caring for six children in the wake of this unimaginable tragedy.
May the little ones and their caring granny be blessed with hope and stability.
Rest In Peace, James Alexander Smith and his precious granddaughter!
