Westvale Olympic FC has been left in deep sorrow following the tragic passing of head coach Bill Georgopoulos’ beloved sister, Athena.
The club issued a heartfelt statement expressing their condolences and support for Bill and his family during this devastating time.
In their official statement, the club said:
“Westvale Olympic is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of head coach Bill Georgopoulos’ beloved sister and we send our condolences to him and his family. Words cannot describe how shocked we are as a football club, our love and hearts go out to the Georgopoulos family, may she rest in peace.”
Stepping Away To Support His Family
Bill has decided to step down from his role for the remaining four games of the season to be with his family.
The club fully supports his decision, with Assistant Coach Allen Vella stepping in as caretaker coach for the remainder of the campaign.
As a mark of respect, Westvale Olympic FC will wear black armbands for the rest of the season in Athena’s memory.
Bill’s contribution to Westvale Olympic has been nothing short of transformative.
Last year, the club publicly thanked him for his tireless work over the past three seasons, acknowledging his role in reviving the team’s competitive spirit and restoring pride to the club.
Together with the current president, George Loulakis, Bill played a crucial role in preventing the club from folding when they returned in mid-2026.
Their leadership and vision brought about two promotions in just three seasons, despite working with minimal resources and a young squad.
Bill’s philosophy has always been clear: “Money can’t buy this, culture is key.”
Standing United In Grief
The loss of Athena has profoundly affected not only Bill and his family but also the entire Westvale Olympic FC community.
The club’s show of solidarity, both on and off the pitch, reflects the strong bonds that Bill himself helped build.
As the season continues, the team’s players, staff, and supporters will carry Athena’s memory with them, wearing their black armbands with pride and compassion.
