John Malone, a former Green River teacher and school board member, passed away after his wife, Linda, beat him with a bottle of Baileys as he sat disabled in his recliner chair.
Linda Malone, 65, was a former school counselor.
Linda Malone has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of her husband, John Malone, who was largely immobile and under her care.
On September 9, 2026, she was charged with attempted second-degree murder and three counts of abusing a vulnerable adult.
Sweetwater County Attorney Daniel Erramouspe confirmed John’s death.
Second-degree murder is not a death penalty charge in Wyoming, but carries a potential sentence of 20 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Wyoming judges have significant discretion in sentencing, meaning the outcome can vary based on the specifics of the case.

He had severe swelling, black and purple bruising on his head and face, and dried blood on his mouth.
Linda confessed to the officers, stating that she had become frustrated because her husband was yelling at her. He didn’t have his phone and couldn’t move in his chair.
In response, she retrieved a large, full, 6-pound bottle of Baileys made of glass from the kitchen. She admitted to holding the bottle with both hands and hitting John in a chopping, straight downward motion approximately five times over two hours to make him stop yelling.
She estimated she waited about eight hours after the assault before finally calling for help.
Furthermore, EMTs learned from the victim that he had been deprived of food, water, and medication for days at the scene. They noted he was challenging to understand and was moaning in pain.
Nonetheless, Linda expressed that she didn’t intend to kill her husband and tried to clean him up before realizing he needed medical attention.
Linda Malone Confesses to Attacking Husband Week Before Severe Injuries
According to a recently filed affidavit, Linda Malone confessed to investigators that she had hit her husband, John Malone, approximately one week before he was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The court document states that Linda Malone told authorities she did not know why she hit John on that prior occasion.
She didn’t believe her husband was hollering during the incident, but recalled hearing a crunch sound twice during the assault.
Later, that attack resulted in a broken cartilage in John’s ear, affecting his hearing, and caused bruising to his eye.
When she hit John a week ago, she just remembers hitting him and hearing the crunch twice and thinking, ‘Oh my God.’
Furthermore, the affidavit concludes by detailing that John Malone was later life-flighted to the University of Utah Hospital.
He was treated for multiple brain bleeds, as well as fractures to his skull, jaw, and eye socket.
Rest in Peace, John Malone.
