Daniel Bechtel, a Clarence, New York native and student-athlete at Clarence High School, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2026, at an untimely age of 16, leaving his family, friends, and loved ones devastated.
While his family hasn’t released any statement regarding the untimely death of Daniel Bechtel, according to some reports, he lost his life in a tragic bike accident.
was an outstanding forward who began his hockey career from a very young age and continued to win the hearts of many with his athletic journey.
He began his ice hockey career with Amherst Knights, a respected youth hockey program known for developing young athletes.
From 2026 until his untimely death, Daniel Bechtel represented the Knights across multiple seasons, appearing in 37 games and recording 11 goals and 7 assists for 18 total points.
His breakout season came in 2026-2026, when he notched 9 goals and 6 assists in 21 games.
With Amherst Knights, Daniel also competed in notable tournaments, including the MHT Rochester Rumble recently in March 2026, where he added 1 goal and 1 assist over 4 games.

With his amazing athletic skills and remarkable journey with the Amherst Knights, the late advanced to the varsity level with Clarence High School.
Proudly wearing jersey #15 for the Clarence Red Debils in the USHS-NY league, he led his team to several victories.
As a sophomore in the Class of 2027 during the 2026-2026 season, Daniel played 19 games, contributing 2 goals, 1 assist, and 8 penalty minutes.
His time with Clarence showcased not only his offensive ability but also his dedication to representing his school with pride.
Whether on the ice for the Knights or the Clarence Red Devils, Daniel Bechtel left his mark as a committed teammate and promising young athlete whose passion for hockey was immeasurable.
Furthermore, the untimely death of Daniel Bechtel has left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
Many of his friends and loved ones are paying tribute to the late Daniel Bechtel on social media and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.
One of his best friends took to his Instagram to recall the memories of late Daniel Bechtel. The post reads:
“He was really my comfort person and I knew every day I could talk to him. While recovering from my injury his mom came over to my house with gifts and he was there for me when I had to push through drivers ed. The last few days have been really rough as I’ve had to grasp what my life will be like without Daniel. All of this has really made me feel motivated to push through what I’m going through to get back out on the ice and fight for Daniel because I know that’s what he would want and that’s what he would do for me. We will never forget about him and he will always hold a large spot in my heart and the hearts of so many others.”
Similarly, his girlfriend, Bella Grace Strauss, shared a beautiful picture of them on and wrote: “I love you always and forever.“
